A strong line of thunderstorms destroyed a barn in rural Racine and knocked down tree branches in Austin Thursday night.

According to Mower County Chief Deputy Mark May, a 36-by-172-foot dairy barn valued at $60,000 collapsed during the storm, presumably from high wind gusts.

The structure was a total loss, but no animals were inside when it collapsed.

A residence on the property was also damaged by a downed tree, but May had not heard the extent of the damage.

In Austin, Police Chief Brian Krueger said his office received some reports of trees and branches blocking roadways, especially in northwest Austin.

Residents in Hollandale in Freeborn County also reported several downed and damaged trees.

The line of storms moved into Austin around 4:30 p.m., and the county was under a severe thunderstorm warning from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
