Three seats on the Austin Public Schools board are officially open for the Nov. 8 election.

The filing period opens today and runs through Aug. 16 for three four-year seats on the school board. Board members Don Leathers, Mary Jane Kestner and Richard Lees are up for reelection.

In April, the school board voted 4-1 to do away with primaries and instead have all candidates on the ballot in November’s election. Previously, if more than six people had filed, the district would have run a primary
