The Packer football team is three days into practice and it’s already got its mind on turning things around this fall.

After going 0-9 overall last year in a season that was riddled with injuries and heartbreaking shortcomings, Austin is hoping to get back on track. The Packers have a strong group of returnees, but it’s not yet determined who will guide them on offense.

Austin head coach Brett Vesel said the quarterback position is up for grabs right now.

“We have a full blown quarterback competition right now,” he said. “Tate Hebrink, Jake Crouch and Pete Conner our probably our top three guys right now and they’re fighting for the starting position.”

One thing is for sure, the Packers are not content on settling for the type of season they had last season.

“I feel like people underrate us,” Austin senior Kyle Oberbroeckling said. “We have a lot more bodies out this year and I feel like we recruited pretty well. I’m going to play hard, because it’s my last year and I enjoy this kind of stuff.”

Austin will open its season when it hosts Rochester John Marshall 7 p.m. Sept. 2.
