Mel and Sharon Yunker were married 50 years ago on Aug. 20, 1966, in a candlelight ceremony at Palos Park, Illinois.

They are blessed with three sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Nicole Yunker, Jeff and Kathy Yunker, Mike and Char Yunker.

God has also blessed them with seven grandchildren, Whitney (Alex), Celina (Trevor), Brooke (Morgan), Shayna, Josh, Rose, Rebeka, Kaleb, and Zeva.

The couple celebrated along with their family and friends at an open house/vow renewal ceremony in June at the Hormel Nature Center. Their sons, grandsons, granddaughter Shayna, and their original Best Man stood up for them. Nicole Yunker was soloist, granddaughter Rebeka performed a dance. Nephew Jay Yunker arranged the music, Pastor Johnathon Poindexter, from their home church, Faith Evangelical Free, performed the ceremony.

Having met on a blind date when they both lived in Illinois, Mel and Sharon have made Minnesota their home since 1977. Through many of life’s joys and trials, God has been the one constant in their lives. His grace has been sufficient for the day, He has provided for all their needs and He has answered many prayers. As Mel says, “It’s been quite a trip.”
