Austin boys and LP girls set to play in Pacesetter basketball tourney

The 26th annual Pacesetter “Sweet Sixteen” Basketball Championship tournaments, featuring strong Minnesota high school teams in a one-class format, including Austin boys and Lyle-Pacelli girls, will be held Friday and Saturday at College of St. Benedict.

The tournament is organized by Pacesetter, which conducts basketball and volleyball camps in Minnesota and five other states.

The boys’ first round pairings at 10 a.m. Saturday are Minneapolis North vs. Delano, Apple Valley vs. St. Charles, Hopkins vs. Nevis, Austin vs. Eden Valley-Watkins, and Champlin Park vs. Mahtomedi. The pairings at 11:20 are Caledonia vs. Red Lake, Totino-Grace vs. Crosby-Ironton, and Osseo vs. Spring Grove.

The quarterfinals will be played at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, semifinals at 9 and 10:20 Sunday, and first-, third-, fifth- and seventh-place games at 2:30 p.m.

The girls’ first-round pairings at 11:20 a.m. Saturday are Grand Rapids vs. New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva and Hopkins vs. Mayer Lutheran. The pairings at 12:40 p.m. are Anoka vs. Annandale, Hutchinson vs. Lyle-Pacelli, St. Michael-Albertville vs. Norwood Young AmerIca, Winona vs. Maranatha Christian, and St. Paul Como Park vs. Elk River. The Canby vs. Roseau game will start at 2 p.m.

Quarterfinals will be played at 4:50 and 6:10 p.m. Saturday, semifinals at 11:40 a.m.and 1 p.m.Sunday, and championship at 5:10 p.m., third-place at 2:30 p.m., fifth-place and seventh-place at 3:50 p.m.
