Adrian Aloysius Stier, 81, died Aug. 4, 2016, in Escondido, California.

Adrian was born May 8, 1935, in Grand Meadow, Minnesota, to Alvin and Marcella Stier. He attended Grand Meadow school, Crozier seminary, St. Mary’s Seminary in Winona, Minnesota,  and St John’s University,  with additional studies in Rome Italy and Notre Dame University. He was ordained priest in 1961, and served in the Winona Dioceses until early 1970s. After that he married and had one daughter. In his later years he became a Buddhist monk and lived at Deer Park Monastery in Escondido, California. He traveled extensively with his teacher Thich Nhat Hanh in the U.S., Vietnam, and France.

He died following complications of heart surgery. At the time of his death he was surrounded by his daughter, friends, relatives, and his monastic family, with chanting and song.

He is is survived by his beloved daughter, Jessica Hauser Stier, of Los Angeles; his siblings: Sisters, Kathleen(Norm) Sween, Grand Meadow, Minnesota, and Sylvia Christian, Fort Wane, Indiana, and Suzanne (Tom) Kjeer, Ostrander, Minnesota. Brothers: Francis Stier (Barbara) of Grand Meadow, and Dave Stier (Bonnie) of Gridley, California, and Sister-in-law’s, Helen Stier, and Marilyn Stier.  He was proceeded in death by: his parents, and brothers: Dick (Dale) Stier, and Jerry Stier.
