A man charged with sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 last year pleaded not guilty in Mower County District Court on Thursday.

On June 23, Jose Luis Cosme Valdez, 37, of Arcadia, Wisconsin, was charged with felony second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under age 13.

Austin police officers received the report on June 3 and said a victim was assaulted by Valdez about one year ago. Another victim was receiving explicit text messages from him, according to court records.

Court records say he touched one of the victims during the night at an Austin residence. After the assault, she told the other victim, who saw Valdez leaving the first victim’s room.

Valdez is scheduled for a Feb. 10, 2017, pre-trial and Feb. 21, 2017, trial.
