Virgil Sorenson, 78

Virgil Sorenson, 78, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Virgil Sorenson will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City with Reverend Jane Keel officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation for Virgil Sorenson will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Virgil Duane Sorenson was born Sept. 24, 1937, in Adams, Minnesota, to Bennie and Ida (Anderson) Sorenson. He graduated from Adams, Minnesota in 1956, and served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. On May 29, 1960, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda Gottfried. Virgil worked at White Farm Equipment for 33 years.

Virgil was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City. He enjoyed wood working, yodeling, spending time with his family, going to McDonalds in the morning with his friends to enjoy coffee and watching PBS (especially the wood working shows).

Virgil will always be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his love for wood working and being our family’s hero.

Living family members include his wife of 56 years, Linda Sorenson of Charles City; four sons: Ken (Becki) Sorenson of Waterville, Minnesota, Kevin (Kim) Sorenson of Owatonna, Minnesota, Dean (Shawn) Sorenson of Denver, Iowa and Darin (Jenn) Sorenson of Charles City; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Milo (Alberta) Sorenson of Austin, Minnesota and Almon (Pat) Sorenson of Adams, Minnesota; one sister, Ilene King of Austin, Minnesota; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Ida (Anderson) Sorenson; and grandson, Benjamin Sorenson.
