Office to be closed Friday

Austin Utilities is ready to make its big move.

The current facility downtown will be closed Friday to allow staff to move to their new location, 1908 14th St. NE, near Todd Park.

“The company, staff and the board are very excited about the move,” said General Manager Mark Nibaur. “It’s been in planning for a number of years.”

Their Energy Park facility will open to the public at 8:30 a.m. on Monday. The 23-acre property was purchased in 2009 and will allow a way to consolidate office operations, including customer service, staff operations and administrative duties, from the seven buildings utilities workers use.

“The new location will be a better service to our customers,” Nibaur said. “All services will be out of the one facility.”

The 105,000-square-foot building cost $18 million and addressed several ongoing issues, according to Nibaur.

Nibaur also said that the pull-up drop box downtown will be closed starting next week. A new drop box for payments will be placed on the north side of the new building under the canopy.
