Luella Anna Gilbertson, 93

Luella Anna Gilbertson, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at Sacred Heart Care Center. She was surrounded by her children.

Luella was born March 7, 1923, to John and Anna (Bender) Marzolf in Preston, Minnesota. She was baptized as an infant at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Preston.

After graduating from high school in 1941, she attended Normal Training and went on to be a country school teacher in Fillmore County. She taught for five years. She taught in three rural schools: Dutch Hollow, Blooming Valley, and the Hovey School.

Luella married Arlen Oscar Gilbertson on June 17, 1949, in Austin, Minnesota, where she lived and raised five children.

Luella was a faithful Christian and was active in the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School, and was head of the dining room committee for many years. She also volunteered to help in the Christian Day School for two years.

She and Muriel Thomson cleaned homes together for many years and had many fun stories to tell. Her hobbies included bowling, golfing, card club, home extension, crocheting, and gardening.

Luella loved spending time with her family and felt blessed with all of her grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters: Kathy (Dean) Larson, Jan Kennedy, and Marilyn (Jerry) Kiedrowski; two sons: Steve (Kathy) Gilbertson, and Jim Gilbertson and fiancée Sue Ashley; 21 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; brother: Carroll Marzolf and friend Sally; sisters-in-law: Averlene Marzolf and Carlie Marzolf.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Welke officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
