John Joseph Marsolek Jr

John Joseph Marsolek Jr., 83, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

John was born May 5, 1933, in Owatonna, Minnesota, to John and Amelia Marsolek. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Pacelli High School. John married Sharon Heimer at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. He was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church and worked at Hormel for 18 years. John was also a janitor in the public school system, worked for Mayflower Moving and Storage, Klimek Transfer, and many others. John was always a good provider for his family.

John’s favorite hobby was scrapping (his whole life for hours on end). He enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, and spending time with his family. He was a big believer in donating to charities and followed through with his beliefs.

Survivors include his former wife, Sharon Marsolek, Austin, Minnesota; six children, Mike (Pam), Austin, Minnesota, Susie (Tony), Austin, Minnesota, Mark, Owatonna, Minnesota, Denise (Ken), Garner, Iowa, Brenda (Jerry), Mason City, Iowa, Bobby, Austin, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Pat (Jim) Hansen, Austin, Minnesota; brother, Ron (Pam), Alexandria, Minnesota; and three nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 91 and VFW Post No. 1216.

Memorials are preferred to the Veteran’s Administration or Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
