Best Bets: Plenty of activities to get you moving

With a weekend full of a swim meet, 5Ks and relays, there is something for every one to get out and enjoy the weather this weekend. Then to finish a weekend packed of sports, bring friends and family to a picnic and concert in the Hormel Historic Home Peace Garden on Sunday.

1. Minnesota Regional Championship Swimming

6:30 to 11 p.m. Friday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Austin Municipal Pool.

More than 400 swimmers are excepted in Austin this weekend for the Minnesota Regional Championships. The main pool and diving well will be closed for the event, but the splash pad and tot pool will be open for free from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. 2. Chateau Raceway Points Night

6:30 p.m. hotlaps, races to follow.

Get out to the races for one of Chateau Raceway’s biggest nights of the year in Lansing. Grandstands are $12, kids 12 and under are free. Camping is allowed, call in advance. For more information, call 507-440-3680 or email 4craigshaw@gmail.com.

3. Pep it up 5K Your Way

7 a.m. registration Saturday

The annual race hosted by the Hormel Foods Corp. employee resource group, Women Our Way, will kick off Hormel Foods Corp.’s 125th anniversary celebration. Following the race, there will be live music, games and activities for the whole family. Pay a visit to the B&J Bar and Grill to get free beverages by showing your race bib. Register at www.Active.com, key word “5K Your Way.” For more information call 507-433-1804. All proceeds go to the Women’s Leadership Initiative and the Austin YMCA. There will be a flag raising ceremony at 8:15 a.m. and then at 8:30 a.m. will be the one mile fun run/walk followed at 9 a.m. by the 5K run/walk. Awards will follow at 10:30 a.m.

4. Mower County Relay for Life

2 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

5. Picnic in the Peace Garden

4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Hormel Historic Home Peace Garden.

Enjoy tours, refreshments and music. Concert series starts at 6:30 p.m. featuring Going to the Sun, an acoustic folk group from Minneapolis. Bring a picnic or purchase refreshments from the HHH. Free event. Rain site: HHH Banquet Hall. For more information, call 507-433-4243.
