PRESTON — Authorities say a Minneapolis woman has died in a canoeing accident in southeastern Minnesota over the weekend.

Fillmore County sheriff’s authorities were called to a bike trail by the Root River on Saturday afternoon for a medical emergency. When emergency crews arrived they found 63-year-old Wendy Beth Anderson unresponsive. Crews tried to revive her, but Anderson was dead at the scene.

Anderson and her husband had been canoeing on the river when their canoe hit a log and overturned. Anderson was able to swim his wife to the riverbank and get the attention of a bicyclist.
