David ‘Lars’ Gordon Hanson, 74

David “Lars” Gordon Hanson, 74, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 25, 2016.

Born in Austin on Nov. 11, 1941, to Clarence and Violet (Beck) Hanson, David graduated from Austin High in 1959 and was a lifelong resident of Spam City.

He was employed by American Can Company in Austin for most of the ’70s and ’80s and eventually retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2003 after 23 years of service.

The game of basketball was his true passion, be it playing, coaching, reffing, or collecting memorabilia. Though he was known for his extensive collection, and uncanny knowledge of trivia, what he enjoyed most was watching his grandchildren play basketball or any other sport.

David was a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Violet Hanson. David is survived by his children: Tamara (Paul) Pulis, Tim (Tammie) Hanson; grandchildren Cole, Grayson, Dalton and Logan Pulis; Jake, Zach and Christina Hanson; brother Steven Hanson.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, June 30, 2016, at the Crane Chapel, 1111 Ninth St. NE, Austin, Minnesota. Arrangements by the Iten Funeral Home, Delano.
