Best Bets: Kicking off summer

Get ready to kickoff summer with a weekend celebration before carbo-loading with pancakes for a weekend marathon of sales, football and a run.

1. Summer Kickoff Festival

5:30 p.m. Friday on Main Street downtown

Vision 2020 and its partners will again kickoff summer with food, vendors, games, music and more. This year includes a Summer Kickoff Jam. 2. Bontrager Family Singers Concert

6:30 p.m. at Crane Community Chapel

Enjoy this 12-member family share their musical talents and Christian testimony. Free will donation gratefully accepted. For more information, go to www.cranechapel.org.

3. 15th annual Three Rivers Flea Market and Rummage Sale

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mower County Fairgrounds

4. Pancake fundraiser for Herald Reporter Jenae Hackensmith

9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Austin Masonic Lodge, 303-A North Main St.

Pancakes, bacon, sausage, juice, milk and coffee will be served. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any Mason member or from the Austin Daily Herald, Austin Area Chamber of Commerce, and at the door. Jill and Kevin Sathre will also be selling bottles of Hering’s Maple Syrup for $10 with the proceeds going to Jenae and her family.

5. City of Austin Public Auction

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Packer Arena, 601 Seventh St. NE.

6. SE Minnesota Warhawks,

4 p.m. Saturday

This area amateur football team will be provided plenty of hits and action in s home game when they take on the Med City Freeze at Wescott Athletic Complex.

7. Fifth annual Darren Dash Half Marathon, 5K and Kiddie Run

7 a.m. Sunday at Veteran’s Pavilion, 104 Ninth Place SW.

These chip-timed races will feature water stops and post-race refreshments for all participants. Kiddie run takes place at 11 a.m., immediately followed by awards ceremony. Proceeds from this event will go to a scholarship fun for Austin Cross Country runners and for programs committed to improving mental health and physical health in the community.
