ArtWorks a great place for summer

I can remember the feeling quite well. That last week of school … knowing I won’t have to get up early, sit through six hours of class, and do homework once I got home instead of what I wanted to do, which was anything but homework.

That time is upon us now. My Facebook feed has already been populated with pictures of three-foot scholars graduating from preschool, while I’ve also been getting invites to attend various seniors’ grad parties. For them and all the children in between, it’s the end of one school year and the beginning of another summer of freedom.

The last thing they want to hear is they’re being signed up for some kind of summer classes. I mean, learning? In the summer? Down at the ArtWorks Center we say, “Darn right!” But it’s not the same old slog, no. It’s learning and fun the ArtWorks way. So if you want your kids to start the summer out the right way, we’ve got a class for that very occasion. We’ve also got a few for the adults out there who need to start their summer off properly, too.

How about the Intro to Polymer Clay for Kids and Adults on June 14? It’s something for everyone. Take your children or take yourself and learn some ins and outs of colored clay that can make beads and buttons among other things. But in this class you will start by adding curly hair to polymer clay face canes and turning those funky haired ladies into beads. Also learn some fun ways to play with your scraps to make interesting trinkets. You will come away with a whole new collection of creative fun.

The very next day on June 15, there’s something just for the adults with another in the popular Uncork and Create classes. This is perfect for any level of painter. There’s guided instruction, socializing and sipping on wine as you recreate a model painting to take home. Painting? A social life? Wine? Pinch me, I’m a desperate housewife. Or househusband.

Just a few days later is another wildly popular class we’ve been really excited to offer. Remember Bob Ross? The guy with the big hair and soft voice who painted happy little trees on PBS? You can do the same on June 18 during the next Bob Ross Landscape class. Ross was pretty famous for promoting the fact that everyone can paint, and this class by a certified instructor is how you find out you can, too.

This is just the beginning of summer, folks. There are even more classes, camps, and a traveling studio headed your way. As always, info can be found on our website, www.austinareaarts.org, and on our Facebook page. Don’t hesitate to get a hold of us, we’re more than happy to help you find a class that’s right for you.
