Southland softball team knocks off Houston

The No. 5 seeded Southland softball team knocked off No. 4 Houston (9-11 overall) by a score of 4-2 in a Section 1A East quarterfinal in Houston Monday.

The Rebels (5-14 overall) jumped out to a 4-0 lead when they scored three runs in the top of the sixth and Kayla Swenson struck out seven to get the win.

“It’s exciting. The girls were happy and it’s always nice to get a postseason win,” Southland head coach Greg Schulte said.

The Rebels will now play the winner of No. 1 Wabasha-Kellogg and No. 8 Rushford-Peterson in Wabasha 5 p.m. Wednesday.
