Austin lost a 10-inning battle to the Wingers by a score of 6-3 in Seltz Field Tuesday. RW beat Austin 4-3 April 12.

The Wingers (8-4 overall) scored three runs with two outs in the top of the 10th inning to take a 6-3 lead and Austin wasn’t able to get any runs after having runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the 10th. The Packers had led 2-0 after Jakob Crouch tripled in a run and Garett Ruroden had an RBI single in the second, but the Wingers tied things up at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

“We were winning when we went out there the first time [we played Red Wing] and we ended up losing,” Austin head coach Chris Gogolewski said. “Tonight it was the same thing. We played ten innings of great baseball and then they had an inning. It’s anybody’s game, whether they’re ranked eighth or not we can play with them and we can battle with them.”

The Packers (5-5 overall) had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the eighth when Phillip Zynda drove in a run to make it 3-3 with one out. Austin had the bases loaded with two outs, but it couldn’t plate the winning run as Ruroden popped out.

Senior Jason Stoulil gave Austin four solid innings on the mound and sophomore Jack Dankert came in and pitched out of a bases loaded with no outs jam in the fifth. Dankert gave the Packers five strong innings before being relieved.

“Jason’s just coming out as a good leader. He’s showing that whatever needs to be done, he’s going to go do it,” Gogolewski said. “Jack has found his groove on the mound. The last two times I put him in it was a tie game or a one run game and he hasn’t flinched a bit. He’s just pumping strikes.”
