Mark Douglas Hatfield, 56, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Mark was born Dec. 1, 1959, in Oxnard, California, to Robert Hatfield and Peggy Fitzgerald Skauge. He grew up in Austin. Mark served in the United States Army from 1977 to 1983. He married Karen Collette on June 8, 1985, and to this union a daughter, Heather, was born in 1989.

Mark made friends easily and he was always the life of the party. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was a major trivia buff of sports and music, and he put a smile on everyone’s face. Mark most of all was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan.

Mark enjoyed horseshoes, darts, and pool. He loved to talk and reminisce about the good old days.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Hatfield; daughter, Heather Hatfield (fiancé, Stephan Wagoner); father, Robert Hatfield; brothers, Cecil (Jacky) Hatfield, Kevin (Jill) Hatfield, Allan (Wanda) Hatfield; sister, Penny Skauge; aunt, Kathy (Dale) Roberts; aunt, Betty, and uncle, Ronnie Hatfield; nieces and nephews; many friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Skauge; brother, Eli Hatfield; grandparents, Daniel and Hazel Hatfield, Cecil Fitzgerald, Marian and Robert Goodew.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016, at Mayer Funeral Home with Chaplain Elizabeth Endicott officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home on Friday. Military rites will be by American Legion Post No. 91 and VFW Post No. 1216.
