The Lyle-Pacelli softball team won in dramatic fashion when it beat Cleveland (2-6 overall) 9-8 at Todd Park Monday.
The Athletics (2-7 overall) scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Mia Bauer faked a bunt and Abby Bollingberg scored from third on a wild pitch with one out. Bollingberg had singled in a run to tie the game at 8-8.
“This is a big boost for our girls. They know now they can win the close games,” LP head coach Jeff Yocom said. “When you hit and field the ball you always have the chance of winning.”
LP, which has now won two straight, head trailed 6-0 early on, but the Athletics scored five runs in the sixth to make it 7-7.
Bollingberg reached base four times and Danielle Hinz and Faith King reached base three times each. Miranda Arkells picked up the win in the circle.
