Spring is about to get its soundtrack and the wheels to cruise with this weekend. From the big band sound to the roar of engines, this weekend will roar with things to do.

1. 46th Annual Band Blast

7 p.m., Friday in Knowlton Auditorium

This music extravaganza lights up the auditorium with that big band sound as the best of Austin High and Ellis Middle schools music livens up the evening. This event will provide an opportunity to see a variety of performances from several different genres. Cost is $5 for students and $7 for adults. AHS Activity passes and Austin Music Booster Concert passes accepted.

2. Chateau Raceway

6:30 p.m., Friday, Lansing

Chateau Raceway hits the oval again for a points night. Hotlaps began at 6:30 p.m. with races to follow. For more information call 507-440-3680.

3. Annual VFW Classic Car Show

8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday at the Austin VFW Post 1216

Downtown Austin will roar to life Saturday as some of the shining examples of past and present automobiles will be on display, surrounded by classic music. Registration is from 8 to 11:30 a.m. with the show going from noon to 4 p.m. For more information call 507-433-6039.

4. Mower County Horticultural Society Annual Plant Sale

9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at the Mower County Senior Center

Looking to round out your garden or flower bed, then come on down to senior center for this annual sale. For more information call 507-433-2370.

5. Southeast Minnesota Warhawks

4 p.m., Saturday, Wescott Athletic Complex

Football in May? The Southeast Minnesota Warhawks, a National Nineman Football League and Southern Plains League will be introduced to the city of Austin when they take on the North Iowa Bucks.
