The Lyle-Pacelli baseball team received a mid-season wakeup call when it lost 15-5 in five innings to Cleveland in Marcusen Park Monday.

The Clippers (2-5 overall) had nine hits, but they did a lot of their damage with the 10 batters who reached base by being hit by a pitch or walked and LP (7-2 overall) also committed five costly errors.

“We’ve just got to throw strikes,” LP head coach Brock Meyer said. “They’re a good team and they can run, but I told the kids maybe this is the beating we needed to get back on track. Sometimes you can be complacent after a 7-1 start, but we can’t do that.”

LP took a 2-0 lead in the first when Daniel Bollingberg and Bryce Strouf doubled in runs and they tied the game at 5-5 when Bollingberg singled in a run with two outs, but they had just two base runners in the last two innings as Cleveland scored three runs in the fourth and seven runs in the fifth.

“We’ve got to throw strikes and we’ve got to field the ball,” Meyer said.
