The Austin softball team split a doubleheader at Rochester Mayo (1-4 overall, 1-4 Big Nine) Saturday. The Packers (1-3 overall, 1-3 Big Nine) won the first game 2-1 in eight innings and they lost 10-2 in the nightcap.

Brooke Pazurek pitched eight innings without allowing an earned run in the first game. Pazurek was hit by a pitch in the hand in the top of the eighth and she had to battle swelling in the bottom of the eight. She allowed one unearned run in that frame, but struck out the last two hitters to end the game.

“Brooke gutted it up in the eighth inning. That was kind of nice to see,” Austin head coach Al Eckmann said.
