18-year-old found with gun, marijuana

Austin Police Officers arrested an 18-year-old for possession of drugs and possession of a weapon without a permit after they stopped him for erratic driving and speeding Tuesday night.
At about 10:01 p.m. officers stopped a car in the 1500 block of First Avenue Southeast. Officers smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and K-9 Sonic was called to the scene and alerted police to drugs in the vehicle, Police Chief Brian Krueger said.
Officers conducted a search and found several small bags of marijuana, a plastic container of pills and a 9 mm handgun.
The driver was arrested and transported to Mower County Jail. Possible charges include felon in possession of a handgun, fifth-degree possession of drugs, probation violation, gross misdemeanor carrying a weapon without a permit, misdemeanors carrying a weapon under the influence and speeding.
