Hayfield girls basketball team knocks off Winona Cotter

The No. 3 seeded Hayfield girls basketball team used a big second half run to get past No. 6 Winona Cotter (16-10 overall) 65-36 in the Section 1AA quarterfinals in Mayo Civic Center Wednesday.
The Vikings (20-7 overall) led by six points at the break and it led by as many as 24 points in the second half.
Hayfield will now focus on playing Dover-Eyota in the Section 1AA semifinals at Civic Center 8 p.m. Saturday.
“They’ve got two very tough inside players we really have to stop,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “I don’t know if we have a team that can matchup with their size, but we’ll give it a go.”
