Joan K. Bustad, 76, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Adams Health Care Center.

Joan Kathern Rumsey was born Aug. 25, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota, to Bernard and Lucille (Francis) Rumsey. She attended Austin schools and was a lifelong Austin resident. Joan owned and operated a daycare center for many years, and raised several foster children. A member of the Lutheran faith, Joan enjoyed fishing, cooking and baking. She liked to spend some of her leisure time playing bingo, knitting, or listening to music. She took special pride in her children and grandchildren.

Joan is survived by her children: Tim Bustad of Austin, Minnesota, Brian (Tammi) Bustad of Rose Creek, Minnesota, Randy Bustad of the Twin Cities, and adopted son Scott Bustad of Austin, Minnesota; one brother Donald (Mary Ann) Rumsey, who currently resides in Germany; one sister Pat Anderson of Austin; sisters-in-law: Sandra Rumsey of Austin, Red Rumsey of Wabasha, Marilyn Rumsey of Brownsdale; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers: Leon, Lavern, Ben and Howard Rumsey.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with the Rev. Jeremy Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date.
