Boys hockey: Fast start propels Packers past Windom

The Austin boys hockey team started strong as it beat Windom (7-16 overall) 5-1 in Packer Arena Friday.
The Packers (6-12-1 overall) scored three goals in the first 11 minutes of the game and that’s all of the offense they would need to get the win. Sophomore Dylan Svoboda scored his first career goal for Austin and Isaac Arnold and Jace Greenman each scored two goals in the win.
“We came out playing really well, then we played at their level the rest of the game,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “We kind of got away from fundamental hockey. A win is nice to have, but we’ve got to move the puck faster and get it out of our defensive zone.”
Freshman Ryan Flanders stopped 16 shots to get the win in net for Austin, which had 38 shots on goal.
Austin will play its final three games of the regular season next week and the Packers will host their final regular season game when they play Mankato East in Riverside Arena 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
