Mower County Powerball sales soared to nearly half a million dollars leading up to last Wednesday’s record $1.6 billion jackpot.
Sales hit $491,903 in Mower County, with $399,514 of that from Austin, from Nov. 7, 2015, through last Tuesday.
The winning tickets were bought in Florida, Tennessee and a Los Angeles suburb. However, there were still some Minnesota winners out there.
The Multi-State Lottery Association says Minnesota had nearly 380,000 winners of smaller prizes. They include 12 tickets that are worth $50,000 because they matched four numbers and the Powerball. Over 1,000 are worth at least $100. But the vast majority of the remaining winning tickets are good for only $4 or $7.
The Minnesota Lottery says Minnesota players won over $6 million since the jackpot roll began Nov. 7. Sales in Minnesota during the 20-draw run topped $49 million, which generated nearly $21 million for the state’s general fund and other programs, including the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
