Best Bets: Paint the Town Pink this weekend

Get ready to fight cancer this weekend while enjoying some good old fashioned sports and jumping into an icy East Side Lake. With Paint the Town Pink events kicking off, some wild turkeys and great music, this weekend will be one to remember.

1. Austin Girls Basketball Paint the Gym Pink

6-9 p.m. Thursday, Ove Berven Gym, Austin High School

Come enjoy a good basketball game while fighting cancer. The event starts at 6 p.m. and the varsity game will start at 7:30 p.m. There will be raffles with a prize drawn at the varsity game halftime

2. Food and Friends Dinner Party

12-1 p.m. Friday, Mower County Senior Center

Enjoy a delicious meal featuring a mixed spring greens salad with cranberries and candied pecans, boneless pork chops, fingerling potatoes, steamed broccoli, and either chocolate mousse or apple strudel for dessert. Entertainment will be provided as well. Members cost $8.50 and non-members $9.50. Sign up at the senior center front desk or by calling 507-433-2370.

3. ArtRocks Open Jam Session

7-10 p.m. Friday, Austin ArtWorks Center

ArtRocks is a monthly jam session for musicians to meet and play with other musicians from around the area. There is no cover charge, and wine and beer will be for sale.

4. Paint the Town Pink

All day Saturday, Various locations throughout Mower County

Look for all sorts of “pink” activities are planned for the coming weeks. Saturday opens a busy stretch with the Snowmobile Speed Run on East Side Lake at 11 a.m. and the Polar Plunge — Plunging for Pink, will take place at East Side Lake from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. A post plunge party is at 6 p.m. at the VFW. The following weeks will feature several PTTP events, including bake sales, flags and memorials, special meals, and of course the Paint the Rink Pink Austin Bruins game at 7:05 p.m. on Feb. 6. 5. National Wild Turkey Federation Banquet
