Hayfield boys basketball team downs Kenyon-Wamamingo

HAYFIELD — The Hayfield boys basketball team used some solid passing and some pin point shooting to beat Kenyon-Wanamingo (2-7 overall) 59-32 in the Hayfield tournament Tuesday.

The Vikings (4-6 overall) knocked down eight three-pointers and Drew Olive led the way as he racked up 17 points, while hitting four three-pointers.

“The ball movement helps a lot,” Olive said. “They got me open and I didn’t have to worry about defenders coming at me. It was a good team win.”

Hayfield led from wire to wire and it closed out the first half on a 12-0 run that was triggered by an Aaron Younge three-pointer that made it 23-17 Vikings.

Hayfield head coach Chris Pack was glad to see his team come out sharp in the middle of winter break.

“You never know what your’e going to get coming back and playing on the holiday break,” Pack said. “I thought we ended the first half well and we started the second half well. I’m pleased with the effort, especially with our shooting.”

Hayfield will play Lyle-Pacelli in the tournament title game 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
