Homemade items are a staple around the holidays, and while many make their own items, the time is near for an annual craft sale in Austin.

A Handmade Christmas, Indie Craft Market returns to Austin on Friday and Saturday.

“We hope that it’s a really fun, unique, exclusive feeling shopping experience,” co-creator Anna Otto said.

She, along with her friend Kristy Rooney, started the craft market, which features handmade or craft items local and non-local people make and sell. Otto and Rooney wanted to give people a place to find handmade items, and those like themselves with handmade businesses a chance to sell locally. Otto said a lot of product moves during that craft market.

This year, the market will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Hormel Home. Friday’s admission will be $10 and Saturday’s admission will be $5.

After holding it at the Corcoran Center last year, the sale moved to the HHH, and now organizers are excited about the change.

“That’s a big part of the experience this year,” Otto said. “And we’re really giving off a kind of swanky, upscale kind of Christmas vibe.”

There will be self-guided tours of the HHH available during the market, and Friday night will feature chair massages, hot hors d’oeuvres, and a complementary glass of wine for tickets purchased by Thursday.

“In the past it’s always been a fun vibe, and it’s still going to be fun but this is really going to have an upscale, unique shopping experience,” Otto said.

The sale will feature some of the same vendors as last year as well as new ones.

“I think we’re going to have more clothing than we’ve seen in the past, which is exciting,” Otto said. “There’s a lot of art, a lot of clothing and apparel, a lot of gifts for children and pets even, and some housewares, like there will be pottery. And of course jewelry.”

Otto said organizers hope the sale becomes a tradition for families and friends. She said many people have already bought tickets together with friends.

“We really want our shoppers to feel like guests and not shoppers,” she said. “We want it to feel like a Christmas party that you were invited to as a guest.”
