2 hurt in Tuesday morning Hwy. 218 crash

Two people were injured when a semi rear ended an SUV near the railroad tracks on Highway 218 north of Austin at around 8:14 a.m. Tuesday.

A 2014 Buick Encore and a 2003 Freightliner semi were traveling southbound when the Buick stopped suddenly as the railroad lights went on, causing the semi to rear end the Buick, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.

Dominic A. Bure, 36, of Waldorf was driving the semi and sustained non life-threatening injuries.

Fatbardh Emra, 30, of Austin was driving the Buick and sustained non life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

The semi sustained severe damage, while the Buick sustained moderate damage. Both vehicles were towed by Midtown Towing.

The Austin Police Department, the Austin Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, the Minnesota Department of Transportation and Mower County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the scene.
