Austin’s chances of a white Christmas are looking a bit better.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until midnight after rain turned to snow a bit sooner than expected. The area could see an inch of snow per hour during peak times and 2-4 inches of snow.
The snow is expected to affect the evening commute, and conditions could deteriorate in the mid- to late evening when winds are supposed to increase to around 20 mph with 30 mph gusts.
The snow would likely stick around until Christmas, as Thursday’s high is expected to be around 32. The snow could melt on Christmas, though, when a of 37 is expected, but it could return quickly.
There’s a chance of 2 to 4 inches of snow Christmas night, which could continue into Sunday.
There’s also a chance of snow mixed with rain from Monday to Tuesday.
