A news photographer has those shots that just stick out more than others and I’m no different. Whether, it’s news, sports, magazine or private, there are those photos that I find to be my favorite and I can only hope that throughout the year you enjoyed them as well.
The above shot was of Hattie Stadheim taken during a photo shoot for the September-October issue of Austin Living Magazine. A photo, that admittedly, I glossed over, was caught by co-worker Heather Ryks and ultimately turned out to be my favorite of the year. Inside you will find more, including a photo from an epic sports battle to a view of the southern night sky over the wind turbines near Grand Meadow. Again, my hope is you enjoyed looking at them as much as I enjoyed taking them.

The first group of walkers reach the first skit, back-lit by an emblazened horizon as the sun sets, during the second night of the Jay C.Hormel Nature Center’s Halloween Warm-up in October. This is always a tough event to shoot because sunlight disappears so quickly this time of year, but this time it gave me and fellow photograph John Duren a brilliant end to the day. I hadn’t been photographing Reina Del Cid’s show for very long when guitar player Toni Lindgre stepped into the spotlight for a guitar solo. She plays with such emotion that it just worked with so very little light. Eric Johnson/photodesk@austindailyherald.com
