MINNEAPOLIS — A popular radio host who entertained listeners in Minnesota for more than five decades has died at age 88.
Charlie Boone, along with co-host Roger Erickson at WCCO-AM, became one of the most beloved teams in Minnesota radio in the 1960s through the 1990s. WCCO reporter Susie Jones says Boone died Sunday.
Boone began working at WCCO in 1959 and paired with Erickson in 1961. Their show was informative and fun, with skits that poked fun at politicians, scores of interviews with newsmakers and celebrities and parodies of old radio shows. Jones says Boone was a true professional and a kind and thoughtful man. After Erickson retired in 1998, Boone continued to host a Saturday morning radio show until 2010, completing a 51-year career at WCCO radio
