Best Bets: Austin hosting a dramatic weekend

Get ready for a weekend of drama as local students and actors show off all their hard work at Austin High School, Ellis Middle School and Riverland Community College. Along with a women’s expo and James Keelaghan, this weekend is sure to rock your socks off.

1. Ellis Middle School presents “Annie Jr.”

7-8:30 p.m., Thursday-Friday, Ellis Middle School Auditorium

Come see this bright, talented cast unfold the story of little orphan Annie. While she searches for her mom and dad, she will charm everyone’s heart. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults and will be sold at the door.

2. “White Christmas”

7-:9:30 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, Christgau Hall, Austin High School

This Austin High School fall musical is filled with fun as two Army buddies in the 1940s and ‘50s take on the world of performance. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and will be sold at the door. For more information, call 507-460-1800.

3. Dancing at Lughnasa

7:30-9:30 p.m., Thursday-Sunday, Frank W. Bridges Theatre

The story follows five unmarried sisters eking out their lives in a small village in Ireland in 1936. When unexpected visitors arrive, the past and present collide and begin to destroy the foundation of the family forever. The show is suggested for ages 10 and up. 4. Hormel Historic Home Holiday Tea

1-4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Hormel Historic Home

Treat yourself to a tour of the 1871 home decorated for Christmas, and tea and a traditional holiday tea menu with entertainment. All ages are welcome. Tickets are $15 per person, available at the Hormel Historic Home or online at www.hormelhistorichome.org. Call 507-433-4243 for more information.

5. Women’s Expo

9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, I.J. Holton Intermediate School

The Women’s Expos is at a new location this year. The event features vendors and crafters at this one-stop Christmas shopping event. For further information, contact Karla Dooley, Kim Richardson, or Joni Irvin at I.J. Holton Intermediate School at 507-460-1525.

6. Nativity House Open House

10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, 606 Oakland Pl Northeast

Enjoy the more than 850 nativity scenes collected over the years by the Holders. A $1 donation is requested, which will go to the Salvation Army.

7. Light The Garden Holiday Event

5-7 p.m., Saturday, Hormel Historic Home

Meet Santa and take advantage of professional photo opportunities. There will be music, crafts, Elvis and refreshments for $5 per person with a max of $25 per family. For more information, call 507-433-4243.

8. James Keelaghan, Canadian Folk Singer/Songwriter

7-8 p.m., Sunday, Ruby Rupner Auditorium Jay C. Hormel Nature Center
