Alumni Update: Area grads begin basketball season

BASKETBALL

Austin grads Zach Wessels and Tom Aase have appeared in all five games so far this season for the University of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Wessels is averaging 1.2 points, 1.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game and Aase is averaging 3.6 points, 4.4 rebounds per game.

Austin grad Joe Aase had played in two games this season for Mankato State University (3-1 overall). Aase is averaging 1.5 points and .5 rebounds per game.

Austin grad Ajuda Nywesh has started all 10 games for Lake Region State College this season. Nywesh is averaging 17.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.1 assist and one steal per game. Nyewsh is 38 percent on 3-pointers and 82 percent on free throws.

Austin grad Gach Gach has played in eight games and started in four games for North Dakota State College of Sciences.

Gach is averaging five points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. He is shooting 87.5 percent on free throws.

Austin grad Bret Lukes has played in both of Hamline University’s games this season. Lukes is averaging five points, two rebounds and one assist per game. He is shooting 60 percent from the field, 50 percent on 3-pointers and 100 percent on free throws.

Hayfield grad Cole Kruger has played in one of Upper Iowa’s eight games this season. Kruger has one rebound on the season.

Blooming Prairie grad Taylor Hagen has played in all three games for the University of Northern Iowa women’s basketball team this season.

Hagen, a freshman at UNI, is averaging three points per game on 3-of-6 shooting.

FOOTBALL

Southland grad Alan May finished his final season at Winona State University as the second leading receiver on the Warriors.

May caught 68 passes for 839 yards and eight touchdowns for the Warriors (5-6 overall).

May returned 21 punts for 258 yards and he completed one pass for an 80-yard TD.

Grand Meadow grad Caleb Leicthnam was the second leading tackler at Southwest Minnesota State University this past season.

Leichtnam had 77 total tackles, four interceptions and seven passes defensed for the Mustangs (8-3 overall).

VOLLEYBALL

Hayfield grad Abby Blanchard was selected All-Conference honorable mention in her senior season with Briar Cliff University.

Blanchard racked up 234 digs and she added 13 aces, 11 set assists and 14 kills in her final season with at BCU.

Austin grad Alex Hansen finished her freshman season as the second best attacker on for Bethany Lutheran College (5-20 overall). Hansen tallied 170 kills, and she added 97 digs and 28 blocks.
