SallyAnn Mary Forstner, 87, died in her daughter’s home in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Oct. 21, 2015, after a month-long illness.

Sally was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Marathon, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred and Stella Pyan. Her family later moved to Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Sleepy Eye and attended college in Mankato. Sally married Thomas Forstner on May 13, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. The couple lived in Madelia, Minnesota, until moving to Austin in 1953.

Sally was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church for over 60 years, the Council for Catholic Women (CCW) and was a volunteer at Philomathian Religious Books and Gifts. She worked as a housekeeper for Queen of Angels rectory for 29 years, and received the bishop’s medal for her years of service. She loved the outdoors, playing bridge and spending time with family and friends.

Sally is survived by her daughter, Barbara (James) Kauphusman of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; a son, Sanford (Pamela) Forstner of Austin; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers: Roland Pyan of Sleepy Eye and Doug Pyan of St. Peter, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial for longtime Austin resident Sally will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Fr. James Steffes officiating. Mayer Funeral Home in Austin is in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Austin, following the service. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
