Volunteers from around Mower County are gearing up and getting ready to come together for one day to help their neighbors complete projects they are otherwise not able to complete themselves.

The United Way of Mower County’s 10th annual Day of Caring will kick off with breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Austin High School cafeteria on Saturday.

After that, volunteers will head out to their project sites. Most will be done within two to four hours. The projects range from simple window washing and yard cleanup to deck removal and waterproofing. The projects help homeowners who might not otherwise be able to get projects done.

In addition to the project requests received at United Way, groups also work with the CHORE program at the Mower County Senior Center.
