While candy gets passed out to dozens of children for Halloween, there are still those in need as winter comes around.

A friendly fall food drive competition between local assisted livings and nursing homes will take place the month of November, starting Nov. 2. St. Mark’s Living, 400 15th Ave. SW; Good Samaritan Society ComforCare, 1201 17th St. NE; and Sacred Heart Care Center, 1200 12th St. SW, will join forces and compete in the friendly competition to collect food for the Austin Salvation Army.

Items most needed include:

Email newsletter signup

—Milk including dry, condensed, and evaporated

—Canned meat including tuna and SPAM

—Canned goods, especially beans of all kinds

Items may be left at the front entrance of all three locations.

St. Mark’s Living will also hand out candy to the public on Halloween from 4 to 5 p.m. People can enter the door facing Fourth St. Southwest. Residents and staff will be in the chapel handing out candy.
