AHS crowns 2015 homecoming king and queen

The rest of homecoming week festivities will be under the reign of the new king and queen.

Mitchell Whalen and Kayla Jacobsen were crowned homecoming king and queen during the annual coronation Wednesday afternoon in Knowlton Auditorium.

Being selected as king came to a surprise to Whalen, who said he was ready for any of the five to be selected.

“It’s crazy,” he said. “I’m very excited, I’m proud to represent my class of 2016.”

Whalen said the rest of the week should bring a lot of fun, and he hopes the football team will beat Red Wing.

Jacobsen was equally surprised to be selected as queen.

“It feels awesome, it was totally a surprise,” she said. “I didn’t see it coming but I’m so honored to represent this class.”

She was also hopeful for the homecoming game against Red Wing and expects a lot of excitement for the rest of the week.

“A lot of excitement, little sleep and a whole lot of fun,” she said. “And hopefully a win in there for our football team!”

Mitchell is the son of Mike and Saralyn Whalen, and Kayla Jacobsen is the daughter of Dustin Jacobsen and Valerie Tieskotter.
