With many Austin and Mower County residents looking to get healthy, to try new activities and to volunteer, the YMCA of Austin is reaching out to make that process easier in September.

The Y, 704 First Drive NW, is waiving the $50 joiner fee for anyone who joins in the month of September.

The Y aims to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Members can create change in their lives and in their community. Members will find preschoolers learning to write their name, elementary kids learning the importance of teamwork and adults forming friendships while working up a sweat in group fitness classes.

This week, many of the Y’s fall programs kicked off including swimming lessons, gymnastics, tennis and kids fitness classes. Executive Director Tedd Maxfield encouraged community members to stop by and see what the Y has to offer.

“We truly have something for everyone,” Maxfield said in a press release. “People are often amazed by how many different programs and classes the Y offers for people of all ages and ability levels.”

To try out the Y, stop by and the Y will give you a free tour so you can see for yourself their impact in the community. The YMCA of Austin offers financial assistance and insurance reimbursement for those who qualify. For more information visit www.ymca-austin.org or contact the Y at 507-433-1804.
