Austin police believe they’ve caught the robber who held up several gas stations at gunpoint last month.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said police arrested a 21-year-old on suspicion of robbery last Thursday. The man, who also had numerous warrants out for his arrest, isn’t publicly named yet as police are still investigating his alleged crimes.

The alleged robber hit Casey’s General Store in southwest Austin shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 31. The robber walked into the store, located at 1702 12th St. SW with a navy blue or black drawstring bag.

He demanded the two employees working at the time give him money.

Police searched the area and at one point tracked the robber with a K-9 unit before they lost his trail.

A robber who wore similar clothing and also carried his own bag robbed the Ankeny’s Mini-Mart just before 10 p.m. on Aug. 24.

Krueger said a variety of tips, including several from gas station employees working during the robberies, led to the suspect’s arrest. The suspect is expected to be formally charged once police wrap up their investigation.

“It’s complicated, to say the least,” Krueger said.
