John Vogelsang, 90, of Dexter, Minnesota, passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at the St. Marks Lutheran Home in Austin, Minnesota.

John Vogelsang was born Sept. 8, 1925, on the west side in rural Dexter, Minnesota, on the family farm to George and Reka (Hofdman) Vogelsang. He attended the Monitor Rural School, and then three years at Elkton High School. John served in the United States Army as a corporal from 1946 to 1947. On May 14, 1949, John was united in marriage to Kathryn Cardinal at the Congregational Church in Grand Meadow, and together they had three daughters: Peggy, Jody, and Connie. John worked at Witte Transportation for 30 years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, tinkering around, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and spending time with his family. John was a member of the Root River Motorcycle Club.

John is survived by his daughters: Jody Mieska of Lakeland, Florida, and Connie Rabine of Faribault, Minnesota; six grandchildren: Eric (Lynn) Ottman of Chatfield, Minnesota, Jason (Mylene) Ottman of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, Jeremiah (Gina) Mieska of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Zachary (Amber) Mieska of Lakeland, Florida, Rochelle (Josh) Steiger of Stewartville, Minnesota, and Kyle (Erika) Rabine of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, George Vogelsang of Mammoth Springs, Arkansas; and sisters: Margaret Schraefel of Austin, Minnesota, Helen (Ralph) Colberg of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Mary Halvorson of Phoenix, Arizona, and Clara Vasey of Austin, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Reka; wife Kathryn; daughter, Peggy Ottman; son-in-law, Leland Ottman; five brothers: Lupke, Rudy, Henry, Fred, and Bernard, and sister, Ann Vermilyea.

Funeral services for John Vogelsang will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow, Minnesota. Burial will take place in the Dexter Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, and one hour prior to the service at the Hindt Funeral Home in Grand Meadow.
