Austin has a new police officer: David Dyke.

Dyke was sworn in as the newest officer in the Austin Police Department Monday at the city’s City Council Chambers.

“I look forward to serving the people of Austin,” Dyke said.

Dyke is a 17-year veteran who worked in Fillmore County before he accepted a job in Austin. The Hayfield native spent four years as a patrol officer before he became a DARE officer and school liaison for all Fillmore County schools. About five years ago, Dyke switched to investigating narcotics as one of Fillmore County’s Southeastern Minnesota Drug Task Force representatives.

That’s how Dyke became familiar with area officers and Austin at large.

“His attitude towards police work is outstanding,” Police Chief Brian Krueger said. “He’s going to be a very welcome addition to our staff.”
