Agnes Jensen, 95

Agnes Bernice Holstad, one of 12 children, was born July 21, 1920, in rural Lake Mills, Iowa, to Knut and Marie (Johnson) Holstad. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed Sept. 1, 1935, at Center Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills. She was united in marriage to Dean Jensen Sept. 8, 1940, in Scarville, Iowa, and together they had two children, Marilyn and Nancy. They moved to a farm near Grand Meadow in 1948. She helped Dean with the farm work. She was a massage therapist for several years for Dr. Jensen in Stewartville, Minnesota, and at a health PPA in Mesa, Arizona. She also worked at Libby’s Factory for several years.

Agnes enjoyed flowers, gardening, and mowing the lawn. She was a very giving person. She made many Afghans and lap rohes and gave them to shut-ins and nursing home and assisted living residents. She made hundreds of cross bookmarks and gave them to the children at Sunshine Acres in Arizona, the third-grade Sunday school children, and enclosed them in get well and sympathy cards. She was a member of the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church and Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona, where she sang in the choirs and was an active member of the circles and WELCA’s. She loved music. She played her guitar and sang at several nursing homes in Minnesota and Arizona, at several music festivals in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, and at many Sytten De Mais. Agnes enjoyed traveling. She went to Norway twice, most of the United States, the Canada provinces, and spent 48 winters in Mesa.
