Southland football team uses big play to rally past Kingsland

The Southland football team used a big play at the end of the first half to seize momentum and it went on to beat Kingsland (0-2 overall) 32-14 on the road Friday.

James Landherr connected with his younger brother Jared Landherr for a 38-yard TD pass on the last play of the first half to put Southland up 20-14 at the half. The Rebels held the Knights scoreless in the second half to seal the win.

“It was a dog fight,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said. “I think we were overconfident, but we battled back and that was nice to see.”

The Rebels (2-0 overall) held Kingsland to 145 yards as senior linebacker Jackson Koenigs racked up 14 tackles and a forced fumble.

Josh Anderson ran for 97 yards and two TDs for Southland and Jared Landherr ran for 83 yards and two scores.
