Organizers announced Tuesday the 2015 Karl Potach Memorial Golf Tournament raised $65,000, marking almost $900,000 raised over the past 18 years for cancer research.

The 18th annual Karl Tourney drew 147 golfers to the Austin Country Club Monday.

The post-tournament dinner and auction ultimately led to a $55,000 Hormel Institute donation and another $10,000 raised for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

Each year, the tournament honors the memory of Karl Potach, who passed away in 1997 at age 4 from a rare form of pediatric cancer called Wilms’ tumor, or nephroblastoma. Wilms’ tumor most often affects children from ages 3 to 4, usually in one of the kidneys.

With this year’s gift, tournament organizers have raised more than $372,000 toward Wilms’ tumor research at the Institute.
