A Grand Meadow man who allegedly shot and killed his pets last year was sentenced Friday to a stay of adjudication, essentially two years of unsupervised probation.
Daniel Carlson, 62, allegedly killed his 16 to 17-year-old cat and his 5-year-old poodle on Aug. 21, 2014, and planned to dispose them at a Mayo Clinic Waste Management incinerator on Aug. 22.
Mower County Sheriff’s deputies met with Carlson on Aug. 25. Carlson told police his cat was in failing health while his poodle refused to be house trained. Carlson said both animals were urinating around the house.
Veterinarians at the Austin Vet Clinic examined the animals and found each had been shot in the back.
