The Austin Area Chamber of Commerce will mark three decades of recognizing area farmers and agribusiness customers at the 30th annual Ag Appreciation Summer Cookout on Tuesday in the Plager Building on the Mower County Fairgrounds.

The chamber has seen the event grow in recent years with more than 1,100 people served last year. The menu includes a Hormel Windsor chop dinner, ice cream and complimentary refreshments.

“Fellowship is a big part of it, too,” said Chamber Agribusiness Committee Chair Darrell Ingvaldson, a Farm Bureau Financial Services agent in Brownsdale, in a press release. “It’s a relaxed, picnic-like atmosphere and people just enjoy getting together with friends and neighbors at the cookout. It’s a summer tradition.”

The meal and refreshments will be served by members of the chamber’s Agribusiness Committee with help from Austin FFA students, Mower County Dairy Princesses and Mower County Pork Producers.

Individual tickets are available at the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce, 329 N. Main St. Tickets cost $10 in advance or $12 at the door.

Proceeds from the cookout help support a variety of committee activities, including sponsorship of the 4-H Ribbon Auction, Mower County Dairy Association, Mower County Corn and Soybean Growers, Farm Bureau Day on the Farm and Mower County Pork Producers. The Chamber’s Agribusiness Committee also organizes an annual “Day on the Farm” tour for elementary students in September.
